Blevins has been participating in the National Geographic Geography Bee since 2001. The Blevins competition is held in January, and all grade levels may participate. The Geography Bee is part of a national competition for students in grades 4 through 8 and is held in thousands of schools across the United States, the five U.S. territories and in Department of Defense Dependents Schools around the world.
The champion of the Blevins Middle School Nat Geo Bee advances to the next level of competition, a written examination to determine state competitors. All school champions are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $50,000 college scholarship, at the national championship held in May in Washington, D.C.
